Furaha Development Foundation (FDF) is a non - government organization created since 2010 by the shared idea of a few local people to empowering community and sustainable environment on North Unguja Region – Zanzibar, to improve living conditions.
Furaha Development foundation goal is to promote the culture and heritage of this beautiful country and to help the poorest residents in developing the skills and resources they need to achieve a healthy lifestyle, sustainable livelihood and environmental conservation
Services are provided to all people regardless of gender, age, tribe, ethnicity, disability or religion.
This organization is working under its constitution and is registered under the Societies Law of Zanzibar no 6/1995, it has registration number L.2490.

It is volunteer organization providing technical, education and hands on volunteer support to grass-roots community projects on the Zanzibar, Tanzania, welcome all students from different universities and colleges of the world who has interest to working with us and has experience of our program.

We offer various volunteer opportunities within North Unguja region on Zanzibar. We are conducting different volunteering program so as to bring about the social changes and development for the people of Zanzibar.

Furaha Development Foundation is located around 30 km north of Zanzibar Town, and we work with kindergarten, primary school, secondary school, orphanage, local community and environmental conservation.

Our mission

Our aims to build capacity among Zanzibar’s poorest residents, as well as to protect the beautiful natural environmental of the island in a sustainable way. The goal is to improve the life conditions of the most vulnerable inhabitants by conducting different programs through the placement of skilled foreign volunteers and the provision of technical support and grassroots groups pursuing compatible goals.

Our vision

  • To supply volunteers to teach different languages (example: English, French, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, Arabic, or others, required because Zanzibar is a center of tourism and is visited by different nations and the hospitality industry in Zanzibar is a main source of employment), Computers, Health and Technical Skills in schools, at the school’s location and community-based sites.
  • To assist members who have been qualified through the training programs to find employment, when possible.
  • To promote co-operation between Furaha Development Foundation (FDF) and other associations engaged in similar objectives with a view to enhance mutual benefit and help.
  • To provide technical assistance, training, and consultative support to community-based organizations including schools, orphanages, and grassroots self-helping groups in the areas of website design, fundraising and organization development.
  • To promote ecologically sound alternative technology, arts and craft and other livelihood projects in order to help most vulnerable residents to develop their skills and resources to achieve a better life.
  • To promote access to health care for residents who currently lack adequate services.
  • To promote the culture of Zanzibar through community events, cultural exchanges and education.
